I am reading this great new book by Shawn Achor called The Happiness Advantage and he speaks about 7 Principles of Capitalizing on the Happiness advantage.“Each activity listed not only gives us a quick boost of positive emotions, improving our performance and focus in the moment; but if performed habitually over time, each has been shown to help permanently raise our happiness baseline.”
I am going to mention all 7 in the next 7 weeks. If one of the principles doesn’t resonate well with you, don’t worry about it. Try something that interests you!
The first principle is:
Meditate. 5 minutes a day!
Try it! I know it can be very difficult with the many (and I mean many!) thoughts going through our heads at every moment. It’s hard to actually slow down, but that is really when you need it the most.
Slow down. Focus on your breath.
According to Shawn, “Research even shows that regular meditation can permanently rewire the brain to raise levels of happiness, lower stress, even improve immune function.”
